Serena Jameka Williams (born September 26 1981) is an American professional tennis player who is inactive. She was named the world's number. 1 tennis player. The women's Tennis Association (WTA), put her as the No. 1 in singles for 319 consecutive weeks. This included the record of 186 consecutive weeks. She was also the most popular player in the world at No. 5 times. Her parents Oracene and Richard Williams coached her. She was awarded 23 Grand Slam singles titles. This is the highest number she's ever won in Open Era. The year 1995 was the year she was made an professional and won her first major singles title at US Open 1999. She was dominant from the 2002 French Open to 2003 Australian Open. She also won two singles majors in the next couple of years, but she was injured and began to lose form. Beginning in 2007, she began to improve.
