The livestream went viral on social media platforms. This case was notable because of the cruel attitude displayed by internet users towards McNutt's demise, as well as because of the slow Facebook response to the video. The video was shared on other platforms and had accumulated a large number of views before it was removed. TikTok, a video platform that was not responsive to the video. It had been shared across a variety of feeds, and was re-uploaded several times, causing many users to opt to leave the website. This case raised awareness about suicide prevention, and the duty of care that social media platforms have to respond to users when they post graphic content.
