 Shakira Mebarak Rill (/S@’kI@r@Shakira Isabel Mebarak Rill (/sh@–KEER-@ Spanish: [(t?)Sa'kira]; was born on February 2nd 1977) is a Colombian artist and singer. She was was raised in Barranquilla. She is renowned for her musical versatility and is often referred to as the "Queen of Latin Music". At the age of 13, she made her recording debut at Sony Music Colombia. After the failures in the commercial market of her first two albums, Magia (1991), and Peligro (1993) the singer's success in Hispanic countries rose with her next albums Pies Descalzos (1995), and Donde Estan los Ladrones? (1998). The fifth album she released, Laundry Service (2001) was her first foray into the market for English-language music. It was a huge success, selling over 13 million copies around the world. Inspired by the global chart-topping success of her singles "Whenever, Wherever" as well as "Underneath Your Clothes", the album propelled her reputation as a major crossover artist. Broadcast Music, Inc. has described Shakira as an "pioneer" who expanded the international audience of Latino singers.Her success was further confirmed by her Spanish album Fijacion Oral, Vol. 1 (2005), Sale el Sol (2010), and El Dorado (2017),
