Amanda Tapping (born 28 August 1965) is a British-Canadian actress and director. She is best known for playing Samantha Carter in the Canadian-American military science fiction television series Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe. She was also the lead of the fantasy science-fiction television series Sanctuary. She attended North Toronto Collegiate Institute, where she was an outstanding student in both environmental studies as well as drama. After graduation in 1984, she decided to pursue a career in acting and went to the University of Windsor School of Dramatic Arts. When the last episode of SG-1 aired, Tapping was cast as Samantha Carter again on Stargate Atlantis. She is now the commander of the Atlantis expedition.
