Virginia Gayle Madsen (born September 11 the 11th of September, 1961) is an American actor and film producer. Her film debut was in Class (1983) in a film that was shot in her hometown of Chicago. David Lynch, the director of science fiction film Dune (1984), cast her as Princess Irulan when she relocated to Los Angeles. Madsen later appeared in a string of teen films that were successful that included Electric Dreams (1984), Modern Girls (1986), and Fire with Fire (1986).Madsen received additional recognition for her leading part in the role of Helen Lyle in the horror film Candyman (1992). Madsen received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Alexander Payne's comedy-drama Sideways (2004).
