Truck stops are big business. Just look at Tom and Judy Love and their multi-billion dollars fortune. The Haslam family from Tennessee is also billionaires, because of their network of truck stops, Pilot Flying J, which they sold to Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway in 2017 - which makes them a billionaire family who has Warren Buffet to thank for large portions of their success. Jim Haslam, father of the former Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam founded the Pilot Corporation. Jim Haslam was a top football player at the University of Tennessee. In 1948, he began his studies at UT. The Volunteers took home the national championship in 1951. He was a player on the O-line and a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and finished second in the voting for the Heisman Trophy during his junior season.After finishing college, he joined the Army and was stationed in Korea in the years after the Korean War. After returning to Tennessee and began his new job, he was offered a job with Fleet Oil. After a few months, he was promoted to head the newly established Sail Oil chain. In 1958, Haslam left Sail to create his own business.
