Screenshot

Screen capture, also known as screen grab or screen capture, is a digital image showing the contents of a computer screen. A screenshot is created by the operating system or software running on the device powering the display.Additionally, screenshots can be captured by an external camera, using photography to capture contents on the screen. The first screenshots were created with the first interactive computers around 1960.Through the 1980s, computer operating systems did not universally have built-in functionality for capturing screenshots. Sometimes text-only screens could be redirected into a text-based file but the result would only record the contents of the screen, not its appearance, nor were graphics screens preservable by this method. Some systems came with the BSAVE command that could be used to record the screen's information stored in memory. However it requires access to an BASIC prompt. Systems with composite video output were able to connect to an VCR and store complete screencasts. This, however, required access to the BASIC prompt. Screenshot kits for standard (film-based) cameras had an antireflective hood that was placed between the lens of the screen and the camera lens and a close-up lens. Polaroid film was very popular to capture screenshots because of the instant results and close-focusing capability of Polaroid cameras.
