LaMelo LaFrance (born on 22nd August 2001), is an American professional basketball player with the Charlotte Hornets (NBA). He was selected by the Hornets with the third overall pick of the 2020 NBA draft. Ball was named the NBA Rookie-of-the-Year in 2021, and also an NBA All-Star in 2022. He was a student at Chino Hills High School in Chino Hills, California. In Chino Hills, he took home the state championship and also had national success as a freshman , along with his brothers Lonzo, and LiAngelo. In the final season of his junior year the dispute with the coach caused him to quit Chino Hills and sign with Lithuanian professional team Prienai. He was a part of the Junior Basketball Association in 2018 that was founded by his father. The following year his return to high school and became an senior at SPIRE Academy in Geneva. Ball was a five-star recruit and was a committed player at UCLA, but chose to forgo college basketball amid eligibility concerns and play in Australia for the Illawarra Hawks of the National Basketball League (NBL) in the year 2019. There he had a meteoric increase. Ball was mocked by scouts the fact that they had feared he would never play in the NBA.
