 Jordan Belfort is a convicted felon and former stockbroker. As of the moment of writing, Jordan Belfort's net worth is negative 100 million.Between 1989 and the year 1996 Jordan ran the financial firm Stratton Oakment which orchestrated pump-and-dump schemes that roofed thousands of victims of innocent money. The founders of the company, Danny Porush and Belfort were both charged with securities fraud and money laundering in 1999. Both of them pleaded guilty. Their sentences were reduced in exchange for cooperating with prosecutors.Unfortunately for fans of the movie, Jordan Belfort was never actually called "the Wolf of Wall Street" during his financial scheming days. Jordan did actually adopt this nickname when writing his memoir from prison. The movie purports that Jordan was given that name by a 1991 Forbes writer. This is false. Actually, the Forbes article was titled "Steaks, Stocks - What's the difference?" It was a reference to fact that prior to becoming a stockbroker, Belfort sold steaks and seafood door-to-door across Long Island. Later, Jordan was described as "twisted Robin Hood" who took from the wealthy and gave to himself and his band of merry gang.
